In 1993, after twelve years as a detail draughtsman and contracts manager, Robin Griggs began working on his own, serving the manufacturing industry. It was clear that there was a lack of people who were skilled and experienced in detailing steel constructions. Most small manufacturers were creating all the necessary details for their workshops themselves. These drawings whilst adequate, were mostly done manually in between other duties of contacting clients and running the workshop and site installations. The creation of these details often proved to be a bottleneck in the throughput of the workflow process.

It was apparent that there was a very real need for experienced detail engineering draughters who could concentrate on quickly creating clear detail, manufacturing and installation drawings.

Beginning on a drawing board at home, he soon realised that in order to maximise the efficiency of the drawing process he would need to invest heavily in computer technology, and a short while later a computer and what was then state of the art 2D CAD software replaced the drawing board. Since that time there has been a continuous policy of investment in the latest technology, currently using the best 3D modelling software available.
